ABP Cut Glass Nappy Handled Dish Antique American Brilliant Crystal, attributed to Libbey Waverly

An antique Libbey Waverly pattern handled nappy, dating to the American Brilliant Period, circa 1900–1910.

This is a piece I was immediately drawn to because of the extraordinary amount of detail packed into such an elegant serving dish. At the center is a dramatic nested geometric star, surrounded by deeply cut fans, crosshatched diamond panels, polished miters, and a beautifully scalloped sawtooth rim.

I especially love the applied clear handle. It gives the piece that distinctive turn-of-the-century form and makes it just as interesting viewed from the side as it is from above.

The cutting is wonderfully sharp and intricate, and when the light hits it, the entire dish comes alive with sparkle. It has the substantial feel and brilliance that I look for in quality American Brilliant Period glass.

I think this would be beautiful displayed on its own, incorporated into a collection of antique cut glass, or used as an elegant serving piece for a special occasion. It is a lovely example of why I find American Brilliant Period crystal so appealing—the craftsmanship and attention to detail are remarkable.
